Become a Guardian Angel!
We are highlighting all the special Dog & Kitty City cats and dogs who have a harder time finding a permanent home. Sponsor one or any of them through our Guardian Angel Program, a wonderful, personal way to make a difference in their lives!
Some cats and dogs are not as adoptable as others due to their age, disposition or disability.
Some have been at the shelter so long that it is their home. As they grow older, they are less adaptable to a new home, so it may be in their best interest for them to stay in the home that they know—the shelter.
Others are shy and retiring and don’t present themselves to potential adopters to the point that they do not get noticed.
Many animals with chronic medical problems or disabilities have a harder time finding homes due to their special needs. We consider them to be dearly loved sanctuary pets.
A sponsorship donation of $20 helps support basic expenses—food, shelter and medical care. You can donate more to cover other expenses, including veterinary care such as exams, bloodwork, vaccinations, and dentals.
If a sponsored animal leaves the shelter, Guardian Angels can select another animal who will benefit from their help. Every opening at the shelter helps another animal in need!
Ms. Sweety was surrendered from another shelter. 2 days after she was at our shelter we had to rush her to a emergency vet where she stayed for 3 nights. 2 weeks after that she had to go back to the vet for heartworm treatment. She has been through a lot but she is not letting all of that hold her down. She loves people and lots of tummy rubs. She will also lay in laps. Come and meet Sweety so she can steal your heart away.
On Friday (9/27/13), we got an urgent plea from Oran M. Roberts Elementary School.
Fourth graders found a male kitten in one of the playground trash cans. They called the assistant principal. There was indeed a kitten almost completely submerged in water. The only thing above water was his little nose and one paw. They pulled him from the trash. The stench led them to believe that he had been in there for a while. (Subsequently, a janitor reported for two days he heard a […]
Meet Dash. You can see by the look in his eyes he is a sassy, mischevious little man. He was a two week old orphan when he was dropped at the shelter. While he spends a good deal of time on the runs, in the high places, he can be coaxed into interaction if you approach him gently.
Dash would like to have a guardian angel.
Jasper is an ideal candidate for our Guardian Angel Program.
Jasper came to DKC with two other orphans, rescued from a kill shelter.
He is a sweet, gentle soul. He likes to play, but also enjoys a long catnap on a comfortable pillow.
Jasper has a chronic eye infection that is easily controlled with medication. It really shouldn't deprive him of a home of his own. If you have it in your he […]
Katie was abandoned by her owners at a vet's office when they discovered she had feline leukemia (FeLV). The vet just happened to tell her story to a client who was also a DKC volunteer. The volunteer immediately took her to DKC and Katie has lived there every since.
Katie is a shy, timid girl who loves attention and affection. To the right person, she would be a wonderful companion. Katie will do well with another positive cat or as an only cat. She needs a quiet home and a patien […]
Marigold is not available for adoption. She would make an ideal candidate for our Guardian Angel Program.
This pretty flame tabby was left in a box at the door, with two moms and 10 other kittens. She is the only one who hasn't found a forever home, maybe because she wants that to be DKC.
She is a spirited girl and will not be put in a carrier or cage without a battle, so you will not see her at LuvAPe […]
Peach was trapped at the shelter as a teenager. She was living under the shed and we feared for her safety.
She is a shy girl and stays on the cat runs to avoid people. Yet she is curious and will watch you approach. She is always grateful for a special treat and a kind word.
Peach is one of our santuary pets and would love you to be her Guardian Angel.
Koko is not available for adoption but he is available for our Guardian Angel program.
Koko was transferred from another shelter. He is a handsome guy with the cutest face. He is declawed, and his favorite thing is tummy rubs. He loves to eat treats, and he also loves to lay in laps. He is a gentle soul and wants nothing but gentle pets and attention.
